My Chanting Journey
After being deeply discouraged from going anywhere near the bima for my own bat mitzvah, I gave up and dropped the thread. In that time, I have lived many lives! I have been a camp director, social worker, music teacher and a synagogue family & youth engagement director, among other things. In my other life I am a voice actor, singer, musician, writer and comedian.
And now, I call myself the Jewla.
“Doula” is usually used to refer to a person there to support and guide another person through a significant physical experience, such as childbirth, and ensure the birthing person is safe, comfortable, educated and ready…
Through one random coincidence and opportunity after another, I was gifted the chance to train in chanting Torah. With a lot of hard work and dedication, I am now a highly sought-after expert instructor in Torah and Haftarah chanting. I bring my many years of experience working with youth and families to my b mitzvah tutoring. Building upon my innate skills and intuitive approach to teaching, I utilize my 20+ years of experience with youth to create a supportive, understanding, fun learning atmosphere for tweens and any challenges they may face in their learning style.
As the Jewla, I’m here to make the Torah chanting process easier, smoother, and more accessible to YOU. I get to bring my passion for chanting to my b mitzvah students and women of all genders who take my courses, helping them each feel comfortable, confident, and ready to get on that bima.
